New York Gallery Review Series
The Education Department at JMoCA will present a series of lectures reflecting current trends in art. A slide presentation of art from selected New York galleries will be displayed and discussed. The series will begin February 18, 1999 at 1:00 pm and will be free to Museum members. For more information, contact Barbara Sarvis, 398-8336 x 15.
The "ArtTank"
The ArtTank is a traveling interactive learning center designed with recyclable materials to instruct people ages 4 through adults in the process of creating a piece of art as well as encouraging conservation and recycling. Hands on work stations will illustrate, demonstrate, and explain the language of art.
This portable interactive learning center will be available for installation on a monthly basis to any Duval County schools though out the school year.
Students will spend part of their day constructing the ArtTank as a team. The group will be directed by an experienced art educator from the Duval County School system and the education curator of the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art. Each week will be planned with various activities and field trips which enhance positive youth development concepts as mentioned in the Canvas Program: Addendum A. skills learning.
ArtTank daily schedule
8:30 - 8:45
Gather for a discussion, schedule of days events. Students will be supplied with a 9x12 sketchbook. This will be used to write and draw concepts and thoughts. This activity satisfies the following desired goals: effective communication, academic improvement, creative thinking, problem solving, self-esteem, sociability, self-managment, and participation as a team member.

Work on ArtTank.

Art studio classes: Painting and Drawing, Ceramics, Photography, Art appreciation, Art Museum tours, Art Videos.
3:00 - 4:00
Write/sketch in journal: Reflections on the day.
Field trips include the recycling plant, visual arts related business, and artists studios.
